Attribution Files and Data Quality Improvement: Next Steps for SHIP Health IT
ATTRIBUTION FILE REQUESTS - We’re excited to report that the Idaho Health Data Exchange (IHDE) continues to make significant progress on establishing connections with clinics’ Electronic Health Record systems. In addition, IHDE has requested a patient attribution file from many of the SHIP clinics.
These attribution files are separate and different from the patient data that will be sent to IHDE automatically though the established connections. Essentially the attribution file is a document listing a clinic’s patient panel. These attribution files will provide the missing information that will link the patient data back to the clinic site and to a specific provider.
Without the attribution file, a clinic will not see an accurate reflection of its patient population on the SHIP data analytics tool provided by HealthTech Solutions. Clinics can contact IHDE at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details regarding the submission of their patient attribution file.
DATA QUALITY IMPROVEMENT - The SHIP Operations team has also been working closely with IHDE and HealthTech to develop a data quality improvement process that will be unveiled later this year. This process acknowledges that the first data analytics reports that a clinic reviews may contain multiple data gaps that skew the numbers in one direction or another.
These gaps might range from the EHR not sending all the needed data elements, to the clinicians not entering the data in the right places in the EHR.
To make the SHIP analytics tool more useful, we are developing this process to work one-on-one with a clinic to systematically identify what the data gaps are and to identify solutions to fill those gaps. You will be hearing more about this data quality improvement effort in the coming months.
